Drowned Out

As trees
scrape the sky
the sound
smothers me;
the white wave
covers me
while my ears
explode.
I grasp
for anything;
anything
that will end it
but my fingers
find only –
a feather
floating
a petal
falling
a teardrop
sliding
a thought
forming
and the noise –

deafening.
