The secret life of a ginger beer plant

Liquid languor of converse flavours,
spooned and stirred nightly.

Pepper-sweet swirl of pungent water-waltz
spirals, lifts and dips.

Sink-settles, rests; sated,
content, concentrated.

Reawaken to commune
on sediment of aromatic ritual.

Very musical, evokes faint ( homeopathic?:-) memories …. color —> shape —> aroma, all in one verse, diluted in each other. Thank you! Slava

  2. Mmm, now that’s a poem I really could drink up. 😉 Lovely, dreamy little work my friend!

  3. Love this Julie…such musical words bubbling and bouncing 🙂

Very fluid–sorry, couldn’t help that. ;_) This is very much a poem of the senses, all smells and sensations and vivid image–just lovely, and also original and tasty. I like the alliteration of sink-settles, too–very satisfying to say out loud.

  5. nice…i like the minimalism in your lines…the second stanza is my fav…the girl dancing…makes for a great image that also plays well against the plant…

  6. This teases the tongue, reads well.

  7. Having only ever tried ginger ale and not ginger beer, actually looked up the ginger beer plant. Am always amazed with your writing, Julie. You can make even a beverage sound soft and sensual–“liquid langour”… sounds good to me!

  8. Becky Kilsby

Tang and cloudy satisfaction… potent brew Julie. Handled with style.

  9. Fine distillation of a complex flavor, and from the inside to boot (as in, what this all tastes like from the heart.) Very polished effort. – Brendan
