Forest-of-One-Single-Star

On a starless night,
no telescope to hand,
there you were,


a tiny speck of light
in a canopy of ink,
and now I find myself


wondering
‘What would it take
for you to cross the sky?’

Lignin


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

We sit
for hours,
neither rigid
nor relaxed,
chiselling
someplace new
between the two.
 

The Pinot and their
adolescent nonsense
planes knotty pine;
curled shavings of
splintered months
wisping the floor.
 

You summon me
above a warm grain
and vanilla flickers;
a mute voice held
in a familiar gaze –

novus lux lucis

I glimpse you in transposition,
mirrored manifestation,
fish-hooking me in the bar-room glass;
 

parentheses frame a lop-sided grin,
picture-light lit by flickering grey-greens.
 

You turn,
razor burn me with your beauty;
swift, dark-lashed flash of recognition.
 

Sweeping familiarity to the fringes,
we weave curios through soft fingers
until dawn,
 

scooping up the nascent swell
of a longed-for new beginning.
